Ground Level Alliance Launches New Digital Hub to help guide the way to sustainability in civil construction

Ground Level Alliance is excited to announce the launch of its new digital platform, https://groundlevelalliance.org, designed to empower and equip civil construction professionals in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands to make sustainability a daily practice, like safety. We provide guidance, knowledge and skills.

Part of our work is this digital hub – a well categorised one stop shop of:

  1. Case studies from civil construction projects from around the globe that showcase the implementation of good sustainability practice.
  2. Cutting edge resources including:
    • Design standards – e.g. rethinking design life, accepted materials, future proofing
    • Organisation / team e.g. rethinking traditional structures and roles
    • Procurement e.g. project assessment, sustainable procurement, emerging delivery models
    • Policy to support sustainability in civil construction
    • Education – e.g. sustainability advocacy, think tanks
    • Measurement e.g. sustainability ratings tools, carbon and GHG calculators

This innovative hub will serve as a useful go to place for individuals and organisations, looking to grow their sustainability capability.

Many in civil construction find it difficult to connect their work to addressing global environmental and sustainability issues at scale. Our group aims to bridge this gap by providing guidance, knowledge and skills.

In Australia, around 70% of GHG emissions come from infrastructure development and operations. In Aotearoa New Zealand – the impact is lower but still substantial. Civil construction professionals are instrumental to all these projects, having their hands on powerful levers that can significantly alter the sustainability profile of projects.

Backed by the largest civil engineering professional societies in the Pacific Region; Australian Geomechanics Society, Rail Track Association of Australia and New Zealand Geotechnical Society, Ground Level Alliance is also developing a course; Sustainability in Civil Construction. The emphasis is on learning by doing, combining the academic with the practical in your workplace.

“Today marks an exciting milestone for Ground Level Alliance as we launch https://groundlevelalliance.org, ‘the’ place to find assistance for civil construction professionals looking for guidance on sustainability matters.” said Robin Power, Chair of Ground Level Alliance. “As well as supporting our educational offering, this platform will enable professionals in civil construction to make a real difference using their work.”

You can stay informed and get involved and follow us on LinkedIn. You will find the launch presentation here. We also request you to share Ground Level Alliance with your personal networks and through your company intranet / communications channels.
