NZ Geotechnical Society Boosts Sustainability Knowledge
The New Zealand Geotechnical Society (NZGS) has partnered with Ground Level Alliance, a Pacific region focused organisation driving sustainability in civil construction.
In announcing the partnership, NZGS Chair, Philip Robins described the thinking behind the collaboration;
“We recognised that the civil engineering profession has their hands on some powerful sustainability levers but we haven’t been using them as effectively as we could. For example, sustainability wasn’t included in most civil or geotechnical engineers formal education and there are significant knowledge gaps. We’ve partnered with Ground Level Alliance to help the New Zealand geotechnical community make sustainability a daily practice, like safety. Ground Level Alliance is helping guide the way, empowering and equipping our professionals.”
Ground Level Alliance Chair, Robin Power, is equally enthusiastic about having NZGS as a support partner.
“Every member of the geotechnical community has a role to play in enabling us as a community to meet our sustainability challenges. Our partnership with NZGS gives us reach, meaning more of our profession are educated in sustainability principles, are armed with approaches to implement them and overcome barriers and have global best practice case studies at their finger tips.”
This partnership with New Zealand Geotechnical Society (NZGS), coupled with Ground Level Alliance’s partnership with the Australian Geomechanics Society (AGS), announced in May 2023, provides a very robust foundation for leveraging the Ground Level Alliance’s work driving sustainability in the civil construction industry.
